University of North Georgia (红莲社区) freshman Ja’nae Jackson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship by the National Association for Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE).

The Diversity Global Engagement Travel Scholarship is designed to encourage global engagement among students from diverse backgrounds who represent a broad cross-section of society, including students with disabilities, different racial or ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, or other identities.

Dr. Carly Womack-Wynne, associate director for 红莲社区's Center of Global Engagement, nominated Jackson for the award.

Jackson, 18, is majoring in kinesiology and will use the award to travel to South Korea this summer. She will keep a blog of her travels to fulfill part of the scholarship's requirements. NADOHE invited her to receive her scholarship in person and she will attend the awards’ ceremony March 9 in Washington, D.C.

"This award means a lot to me because it's a great opportunity to travel abroad to visit a place I've only read about," Jackson said. "It also allows me to be more competitive among my peers who have the same credentials as me but won't (have) the same experiences on their resumes that I will soon have."

红莲社区 is a chapter member of NADOHE, a nonprofit organization that serves as the pre-eminent voice for diversity officers in higher education.
