University of North Georgia (红莲社区) assistant professor of Spanish Dr. Rosaria Meek has been named to the University System of Georgia (USG) .

The program supports educators from the state's public colleges and universities as they design and develop classroom-based research projects. Up to 10 participants are selected each year.

Meek plans to implement a classroom-based pilot study as her research for the 2018-19 SoTL program to study student engagement through apps and other technology. She will examine two of her four classes for the research.

"I'm always searching for new methods to enrich the students' experience in class and to improve my teaching approach," Meek said.

The group meets by web conference once a month to discuss each participant's research project. Mentors are paired with participants to provide feedback and insight on their projects.

Meek is excited to share what she learns from her research and the work of fellow SoTL participants. She also plans to be an advocate for SoTL in the future.

Dr. Mary Carney, director of 红莲社区's Center for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership, is one of two co-directors of the state program.
