University of North Georgia (红莲社区) alumna Emmy Lawalin, who goes by "Emmy Law" in the music industry, released "Bitter Heart," on May 21. It is her second extended play album.

She recorded the album in Nashville, Tennessee, where she moved in February after four years in the Atlanta music scene. An indie-pop singer-songwriter, Lawalin said the album marked an important milestone for her.

"Releasing music is a learning experience," she said. "I feel like now I'm starting to take ownership of my releases and going into the studio with more of a vision."

Lawalin earned a music education degree from 红莲社区 in 2010. She was a member of the cross-country team, earning All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) honors in 2007 and PBC All-Academic recognition in 2008.

Lawalin's goal with her latest release is to help people find healing in their relationships and realize they can move forward from a bitter heart.

"Even though you have a past that's tough, there's hope," she said.

Lawalin said she is thriving off the tight-knit music community in Nashville.

"The songwriters are very supportive of each other," she said.
